To My Son, whose girl dumped him

In the darkest hour,
There is always
A new soul stirring.
In the darkest moment,
There is light.

Remember this.

Remember this,
When you weep
for the homeless woman wadding
Her toothless gums,
Holding her bundled baby,
Outside Nieman's
In the snow.

Remember this
When your team loses,
Your girl leaves,
And the bottom falls
Out of the market,
Out of your world,
and your world bottoms out.

Remember this
When your world bottoms out,
Flying through space
Like a donut hole falling
Leaving only a rim
As a dim reminder,
And even the powdered sugar
Falls away lightly,
Leaving nothing to clutch
But the arm of an ancient teddy bear
And the memory of a whisper.

"You are good,
You are kind,
You are real.
You are a part of
Existence itself."
With every death,
A baby yowls in birth.
With every death of yourself
A new self is bursting forth,
Uprooting the daisies
And awakening the Lord.
"Alleluliah!"
